Twinkle Echo - Casiotone For The Painfully Alone

This album is by no means new, it's been out for a while now, it was actually released in 2003. However I am sure there are plenty of people who have never heard this album, or even of Casiotone for the Painfully Alone; the solo project of Owen Ashworth - a harmless looking gent with a nice beard. Now Owen (or Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, or CTFPA for my sake as I do not feel like writing out the entire name every time.) has released 5 Albums, 4 EPs, and plenty of singles. However Twinkle Echo stood out for me, as it is the only album of his discography where I actually enjoyed and loved each and every track on the entire album (which is rare for me because when I get an album I usually only like maybe 3 - 5 songs on it, and the rest are just par), I'm not saying I didn't like his other albums either, because I do and I await another album from CTPFA (jesus even the acronym is long).

Twinkle Echo has 14 tracks, and each one means something different and special to me personally, as his lyrics are simple and relatable, yet at the same time are far from childish and silly. Most of his lyrics pertain to his previous love interests, or to his own personal experiences in life, dealing with things such as driving to Phoenix in a Toyoto Corolla, to his high score in Scrabble. My favorite song on the album contains lyrics from various songs by The Smiths. His accompanies his lyrics with simplistic and catchy lo-fi synth riffs made with cheap keyboards and drum machines whose drum samples can be related to that of a '90s computer printer. CTPFA's songs are also really short, which some may debate means that it's cutting out content, however I believe by keeping things short, it prevents him of overstaying his welcome by killing time with unnecessary filler. His songs are straight to the point and I like it.
  1. "To My Mr. Smith" - 1:52
  2. "Jeane, if You're Ever in Portland" - 2:28
  3. "Toby, Take a Bow" - 1:59
  4. "It Wasn't the Same Somehow" - 2:21
  5. "Hey Eleanor" - 1:29
  6. "Half Ghost" - 3:04
  7. "Calloused Fingers Won't Make You Strong, Edith Wong" - 1:43
  8. "Blue Corolla" - 2:03
  9. "Casiotone For the Painfully Alone in a Yellow T-Shirt" - 2:18
  10. "Students for Scarves & Charm" - 0:55
  11. "Roberta C." - 3:45
  12. "Attic Room" - 3:08
  13. "Giant - 2:08
  14. "Twinkle Echo" - 0:39
